Welcome

Welcome to my webpage at the Technion – Israel Institute of Technology in Haifa, Israel. I am Professor Emeritus at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering and at the Transportation Research Institute. In addition, I was recently affiliated with the Beijing Jiaotong University (BJTU) in China as a Zhi-xing Professor, and with Hiroshima University in Japan at the Graduate School for International Development and Cooperation (IDEC). From 2016 through 2020 I served as Honorary Professor at the University of Auckland, New Zealand, and as SMRT Visiting Professor at the NTU university in Singapore in 2023.

My research interests cover the following themes: public transport, operations research, human factors and behavior, intelligent transportation systems, road safety, traffic control, and logistics. My brief Bio:

Avishai (Avi) Ceder is the Founder and was the Director, until 2014, of the transportation research centre (TRC) in the University of Auckland. Avi was Head of the Transportation Engineering and Geo-Information Department at the Technion, the Chief Scientist at the Israel Ministry of Transport from 1994 to 1997, and the Israel delegate to the Transport Program of the European Community. He was a visiting Professor twice at MIT, the University of California at Berkeley, and at Universities of Hong Kong and Tokyo, and he is a member of various international symposia and workshops (e.g., ISTTT, CASPT).

Received Lifetime Contribution Award by the Transportation Research Board (TRB), USA, in January 2024. In 2007 Avi released the book ‘Public Transit Planning and Operation: Theory, Modelling and Practice’, 640 p., by Elsevier, Oxford, UK, which was translated to Chinese by Tsinghua Press, Beijing, 2010; its 2nd edition ‘Public Transit Planning and Operation: Modelling, Practice and Behavior’ 742 p. appeared  in 2016 by CRC Press, Boca Raton, USA, and was translated to Chinese by Tsinghua Press, Beijing, 2017, and to Korean by Cheong Moon Gak press, Seoul, Korea in 2018.
